World AIDS Day 2024

On December 1, 2024, the world observes World AIDS Day, emphasizing this year's theme, "Ending Inequalities, Ending AIDS." Significant progress has been made in recent years with advancements in antiretroviral therapy, which has transformed HIV from a once-deadly diagnosis into a manageable chronic condition and increased global access to preventive measures. Moreover, increased global access to preventive measures such as PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) has played a pivotal role in reducing new infections. However, inequalities in healthcare access and stigma remain critical barriers to eradicating HIV.

In response, global health leaders are calling for more robust collaboration to tackle these challenges, aiming to meet the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets by 2030, which calls for 95% of people living with HIV to know their status, 95% of those diagnosed to receive sustained antiretroviral therapy, and 95% of those on treatment to achieve viral suppression. Events worldwide focus on raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, honoring those lost to AIDS, and supporting people living with HIV.

This day serves as a reminder that unity and action are essential to achieving an AIDS-free world.
