Dr. Z.S. Meharwal is the Chairman and Head of the adult Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplantation, and VAD program at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.
He is part of the institute's founding team of Doctors.
He has over 30 years of experience in cardiac surgery, with more than 30000 surgeries to his credit, including complex heart operations and Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs).
Dr. Meharwal is known for pioneering many new cardiac operations in the country and has been actively involved in teaching and training.
He serves as the Programme Director of DNB Cardiothoracic Surgery at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute. He has trained numerous cardiac surgeons in India and abroad.
Dr. Meharwal has been recognized with several awards, including the President's Award, for contributing to Cardiac Surgery.
Has been invited to national and international meetings as faculty and has published extensively in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
He is a member of the Indian Association of Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgeons, the Cardiological Society of India, the Asian Society of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, and the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.
Dr. Meharwal has been awarded the Citation Award by the President of India, Sri APJ Abdul Kalam, on the occasion of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery Meeting – 2002, Saharanpur Aditya Samman by the Government of UP for contribution in the Medical Field - 2005
Additionally, he has been listed in the Limca Book of Records for performing Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery on a 94-year-old man, who is the oldest patient to undergo CABG.
