Dr. Krishna Iyer is one of the best pediatric cardiac surgeons in India. He is known for his exceptional clinical skills and extensive involvement in advancing cardiac care for children in India and other developing nations.
In 1995, Dr. Iyer established the first dedicated pediatric cardiac care program in Northern India at Escorts Heart Institute Research Centre (now Fortis-Escorts Heart Institute), setting a new standard for pediatric cardiac care in India and its neighboring countries.
With his guidance, this program has become a model for cardiac care for children in the region.
Dr. Iyer has performed over 10,000 surgeries on babies, children, and adults with congenital heart diseases, including a wide range of complex procedures.
He has also significantly contributed to the field, pioneering India's rapid two-stage arterial switch procedure.
His current focus includes refining complex neonatal cardiac surgery, addressing cardiac issues in malnourished infants and children, providing care for late-presenting congenital heart disease cases, and developing cost-effective cardiac care solutions for children in developing countries.
After completing his basic training, Dr. Iyer joined the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at AIIMS and was an Additional Professor then.
He later joined Escorts Heart Institute to establish its pediatric cardiac care division.
Dr. Iyer is also actively involved in charitable initiatives for underprivileged children, notably contributing to Rotary International's 'Gift of Life' program.
He got training in pediatric and infant cardiac surgery under the guidance of the renowned pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. R.B.B.Mee as a Senior Fellow at the Department of Pediatric Cardiac Surgery at Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne, in Australia, in 1989.
